I really liked this book because:
1. It was a good book to talk about animals

ReplyDeleteAuthor: Marissa Meyer
Summery:
This story is about this 16-year-old cyborg mechanic girl. One day she meets the prince of new Beijing. The prince has come to her mechanic shop to get his android fixed. All was normal that is until a person breaks out with the plague at where cinder is working. After that cinder goes home. Then after a few hours she finds her sister is contaminated with the plague with her as the prim suspect of infecting her. Cinder is being suspected of her sister’s infection but why doesn’t she have the plague? Cinder is now sent by her angry stepmother to the new Beijing palace libratory to be tested to see why she is immune to the plague and to try and find a cure for her sister. There she will uncover secrets about herself, what she is, and who she is meant to be.
Setting: The first half of the story takes place in the commonwealth. It is a place where humans and cyborgs and may be even covered up Lunar can roam freely. It may be a bit filthy but it has most of the every day stores. Cinder has a mechanic shop there and lives not to far away. The second half of the story takes place in the new Beijing palace. It is a place where prince kai lives. It is also a place the lunar queen comes to visit.
Characters: the most important main character is Cinder. She is basically a cyborg who doesn’t know her birth parents. She lives with her stepmother and two stepsisters. Her stepfather died shortly after adopting her. She has no memory of her child hood and is rejected by her stepmother and one of her stepsisters. She is strong willed and impulsive. Another important main character is prince kai. He is the prince and shortly the king of new Beijing. His father the king died of the plague. He liked cinder in the beginning of the book. He is stubborn and cares more about his people than about himself.
I would give this book a 4 out of 5. I give it that because the beginning is a bit slow moving and not so action packed. I’d say a science fiction, and adventure type reader would like this series. It may be a bit slow moving at first but it starts to have more action at the end of book one. Book two and three also have a lot of action. It has a book four but I didn’t read it yet so I can’t give feed back.
Reasons of why I liked this book:
1. It had an interesting twist at the end of book one.
2. It showed how one could be shut out because they are different. Just like the world we live in today.
3. The connections between the characters are very confusing but cool through out the series. It made me think.

The Giver
ReplyDeleteAuthor: Lois Lowry
Summary: Jonas, an eleven–year-old boy, lives in a world that is perfect. Free of pain and fear, their society has taken away choice from the people. When a child turns 12, they’re assigned a job based on their abilities and personalities. Citizens may apply for a spouse, but the committee of elders chooses them. In fact, the committee chooses where a person lives, who their child will be, and even what their name will be.
Whenever the committee has troubles in making a decision, they call on the help of the receiver. The receiver holds the memories of the world along with the pleasures of life. As Jonas turns 12, he is selected to be the next receiver. With the new knowledge that Jonas possesses, his perspective on life completely changes. What will he do? Will he take action?
Setting: The story is set in a futuristic utopian society. And although it is not clearly stated, it is believed that Jonas lives in a small community.
Main Characters: Jonas: He is said to possess many characteristics that make him an excellent candidate to be a receiver. Some of the qualities that were used to describe Jonas in the book were, intelligent, courageous, and honest. Aside from that, most of the characters in the book are exceedingly similar
I rate this book a 3.5 stars because although it was a very well written book, I personally do not enjoy books of this genre.
I’d recommend the Giver to those who enjoy sci-fi, futuristic themes, or perhaps even mystery. This book has a serious atmosphere to it, so it isn’t advised for those who prefer books with a lighter mood
Why I enjoyed this book
One of the few reasons as to why I liked the Giver is because it provided you a perspective on a different kind of society. The society that Lois Lowry wrote about was a “perfect” and controlled society, which, is very different from Canada’s style of government.
Another reason why I like it is because of the language. The words are put together beautifully and it helps to create an image in your mind. The book is actually quite complex, it has deep meanings that may often be overlooked.
The ending of the Giver was one that forced the reader to interpret what happened. Because it was not clearly stated as to what happens, the reader may choose to imagine their very own version of it.

Summary: Every year in Quill, 13 year olds are sorted into two categories. Wanteds, and Unwanteds. The Wanteds being the strong and intelligent go onward to university, while the Unwanteds are the artistic, creative ones. Since this is considered wretched, they are sent to their demise. Identical twins Alex and Aaron Stowe are sent to the purge. Although Aaron has high hopes on becoming a Wanted, Alex is aware that he doesn’t have much of a chance. He was once caught drawing with a stick on the dirt, and doing so is asking for a death wish. Alex’s future is looking very grim…
Setting: This story takes place on a gray, gloomy land named Quill, directly where the purge is taking place, which was named, the Death Farm. Quill is run by the high priest Justine.
Main Characters: Alex, the one of the identical twin brothers, Meghan, who was the kind that loved singing and dancing, Lani, the daughter of one of the governors, the second in command, and Samheed, one of the more, cocky people.
Star rating: 4/5
The reasoning for this, although it is a very good book and it deserves a 5/5, it’s just the incompletion. Most likely from it being in a series is the reason for the unanswered ending.
You can already tell I like this book.
-It’s very funny at times,
-The characters are very interesting and lovable,
-And it is a very dramatic book.
Not only that, but this book shows a powerful message about creativity, imagination, and most importantly, a big message on communism since this book shows it everywhere. With fantasy like creatures and magic involved, I was quick to get into this book.
This book would be perfect to:
Someone that loves fiction, fantasy, and drama. If you’re interested in any of them, mostly for fantasy, you will love this book!

Title: DRRR!!
ReplyDeleteAutor: Ryohgo Narita
Illustrator: Suzuhito Yasuda
Summary: Mikado Ryugamine is a teenage boy who moves into the Ikebukuro Tokyo to attend Raira academy with his best friend Masaomi Kida. After the two meet at the train station, Kida warns Mikado of who he should stay away from such as, the violent man with superhuman strength Shizuo Heiwajima, the mischievous information broker Izaya Orihara, and the infamous mysterious gang known as "The dollars". The narrative follows every character equally, showing how all their lives cross each others to create a bigger plotline.
Setting(s): The streets of Ikebukuro, sometimes Raira academy
Main Character:
Mikado Ryugamine: A polite timid boy. Despite his timid personality he has a much darker side to him.
Kida Masaomi: Masaomi has a very friendly, enthusiastic, and outgoing personality, and is almost always seen fooling around, smiling, making bad jokes, teasing friends, and hitting on girls. He cares deeply for his friends, having to act as a sort of big brother for Mikado as he adjusts to life in the big city and going to great lengths to protect people who are close to him.
Anri Sonohara: Anri is very distant and quiet, rarely speaking to anyone for any extended period of time. She is shown to be rather submissive and tends to "go with the flow" even when someone is harassing her.
Izaya Orihara: Izaya's love humanity, what he specifically loves about humanity is the unpredictability of human nature, and he greatly enjoys putting people in enjoyable or chaotic situations in order to observe their reactions.
Shizuo Heiwajima: Shizuo's great strength is explained this way: Normally, the brain restricts one's power, shutting down muscles in response to pain in order to prevent serious injury; Shizuo doesn't have this limitation, and is capable of using his full strength.
Celty Sturluson: Celty's personality is one of the most normal and down-to-earth compared to most of the other cast. Although she was fairly emotionless in her early life, she has since developed a much more defined personality as she spent more time with humans.
Rating: I would give this book a 5/5 because of the unique way Ryohgo Narita has written it, I love how you get to experience the life of every character.
Who would I recommend this to?: I would recommend this to fans of action and mystery.
Reasons why I liked it:
1. The characters are all different and have amazing personalities
2. It's not cliche and has a original storyline
3. The concept feels so differnt and stands out to me

A 5 Star Rating
4/5
I think people who like to watch crime shows or just like mystery is general would really enjoy this book. I liked this because I really like shows/books about mystery.
I liked this because there is suspense. The book makes you want to read more because of the problems that occur in the book. You have to read more to find out the true solution. I also really liked this book because it was an interesting story. You could somewhat connect this into your real life. The word choice in this book is amazing for my grade level. The words are different, but not hard to understand.
